(329 words) Leo Tolstoy is a great Russian writer, thanks to whom such world-famous works as “War and Peace” and “Anna Karenina” were born. In his creations, he shows not only the unshakable character of the Russian people and their steadfastness, but also false patriotism, which is inherent in some characters in his books.
Let's start with the novel War and Peace and some of its heroes. Natasha Rostova - one of the main characters - a very kind and sensitive girl. She is like no other in her family close to the common people. It is Natasha who encourages relatives to leave the property and instead take the wounded people to the carts. This act shows the real patriotism of a woman and her love for ordinary people.
Mikhail Kutuzov, too, unconditionally can be called a true patriot. The moment where the commander gives the order to retreat from Moscow in order to save the army confirms this once again.
However, the complete opposite of the two above-mentioned heroes is Dolokhov. Despite the fact that he showed his courage in battle, it was clear that all this was for his own benefit. Such as Dolokhov are usually called false patriots. In addition, he is cruel and ungrateful. When Pierre gave him his friendship, Fedor brazenly lied to his face, seducing the count's wife.
Now let's move on to another work of Tolstoy - “How are people alive.” In it, the author shows how indifferent Russian people are to other people's troubles. The main character Semyon is a very poor man. He and his wife have one coat for two, and even that has already worn out. Once returning home, Semyon picked up a frightened young man who was completely naked. Without thinking twice, the man took off his boots with a caftan, gave it to him and led him home. There the poor fellow was fed and laid to sleep. Semyon understood that he was giving the homeless his last meal and his clothes, but that did not stop him. Love for people and a desire to help were much stronger than the fear of staying hungry and barefoot.
We see that Leo Tolstoy portrays in his works brave, persistent people who are ready to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of others. Of course, our compatriots have flaws: cruelty, deceit, immorality, frivolity. Nevertheless, goodies give hope for a brighter future for Russia.
