War is a difficult test, which not everyone is given to pass. Many people can not stand the oppression of circumstances and betray their homeland, family, violate the oath and the word. Nobody argues that in battle a person is very painful and scared, and moral categories can fade into the background when it comes to survival. Many condemn this, although they themselves have never been to the front. I believe that in the fight against the enemy, everything is not easy, but especially loyalty to the duty for which people usually go to death.
An example is the story of Nikolai Pluzhnikov from B. Vasiliev’s novel “Not Listed”. He fell into the Brest Fortress on the eve of the treacherous attack of the enemy, which took the soldiers by surprise. The hero began a fierce battle, not even having time to get a mark on arrival. Still very young people were faced with an unprecedented disaster. Some of them even went crazy, deafened by bombs and shells. Most of the defenders died during the assault, and the remaining people hid in ruins in order to continue to defend the fortress from there. Such hellish conditions are not easy. Nikolai bitterly escorted the pregnant girl captured by the Nazis in order to somehow protect her from imminent death. He himself accepted the death of a soldier - he fought to the last, resigned to the fact that he would never see Mirra again. Was it easy for him to make this decision? Of course not.
Another example was described by the same author in the story “Dawns Here Are Quiet”. Petty Officer Vaskov sent five girls to death, and this operation on the road was the hardest test of his life. He had never felt such bitterness at the front. Before his eyes, women died, but he could not help them, could not protect them. Knowing their stories, he imagined how parents receive a funeral, how a child becomes an orphan and cries, missing her mother. And even in this situation, his voice did not flinch, giving another order. He remained faithful to duty, but at what cost?
Thus, fidelity to duty in itself is difficult to give to a person, so also the war complicates his share several times. Unfortunately, the struggle raises the issue of devotion more dramatically, forcing people to step over themselves and their feelings on the path to victory.
